Nestled in the Cardiff suburb of Llandaff, Insole Court is a Grade II* listed mansion house with a rich history and a vibrant events programme. After an extensive refurbishment, it’s now run by a registered charity, the Insole Court Trust.. The project presented an interesting challenge due to its sheer scale and variety. Each room within the property had a wood floors that exhibited unique characteristics
The entrance hall of the main house was showing all the signs of decades of heavy foot traffic and neglect. We sanded the floors back to a fresh clean surface and refinished the floors with four coats of a commercial grade flor lacquer, that provides a beautiful and durable finish. The perfect first impression of the houseThe transformation of the hallway was nothing short of spectacular! The once tired-looking wood floors now restored, enhancing the natural light, brightening up entire hallway. People visiting Insole Court couldn’t help but notice the detail of the restored wood floors, thanks to our detailed approach to wood restoration that ensured exceptional results were achieved.

Upon completion of the sanding and restoration of this floor, which included applying 4 coats of Granwax Masterfinish satin floor lacquer—the result was nothing short of spectacular! The once worn-out wood floors now exuded an air of sophistication fitting perfectly within Insole Court’s reading room esteemed environment.
The once weary-looking Dining room with the original oak floor now boasts a renewed appearance thanks to the professional wood restoration undertaken by Acorn Floor Sanding. The application of Granwax floor lacquer played a significant role here too – enhancing natural light within the room providing a much brighter appearances during daylight hours while providing warm undertones during the evening. A perfect blend between aesthetic appeal & practical functionality!
The once tired-looking Billiards room floors now boast renewed vitality with the hard-wearing commercial lacquer finish reflecting all the natural light creating an airy atmosphere throughout space. The Potting Shed needed a floor restoration services that would complement its warm environment while being robust enough to withstand heavy footfall. We restored solid oak wood floor that radiated warmth matching perfectly with The Potting Shed’ welcoming vibe yet tough enough resist rigours bustling café life! It wasn’t just about restoring old worn-out floors rather making it even more inviting for customers while ensuring longevity functionality at the. same time.
The end result of the Carriage hall wood floor restoration surpassed even our expectations. Lighter coloured wood coupled with meticulous wood finishing work allowed the natural light flood into room bouncing off the restored wood floor. When our work was finished the Stable, the wood floor looked as good as new! All signs of previous damage had been expertly erased leaving behind nothing but a restored wood floors that retained the original charm, with a durable satin finish providing a protective finish resilient enough to withstand rigours daily use in years to come showcasing the overall ambiance within room. It’s safe say expectations were exceeded beyond measure!

At some point in this floors history, to complete some kind of repair, someone hd replaced the original planks with wood that was a different type of wood that obviously did not match the original floor. Our task was to colour match the wood. Using a combination of pigment colours mixed with French polish we were able to seamlessly blend the wood to crate an even coloured floor
Due to many decades of foot traffic up and down the stairs, the blocks became loose and badly worn. Our task was to replace any damaged block using reclaimed blocks, refit and re glue any loose blocks to match the original pattern. We then sanded and refinished the floor applying four coats of Granwax Masterfinish floor lacquer
A complex project involving many aspects of wood floor restoration. We embarked on this task with meticulous planning and execution. First, we conducted an exhaustive assessment of all the floors condition which helped us devise an effective plan tailored specifically for this project. We initiated our process with thorough floor sanding where each step was carefully treated to ensure uniformity across all the floors at Insole Court, along with other minor repairs ensuring every detail was taken care of meticulously, while preserving their unique character traits inherent in the wood floor patina.
