A brief history of Insole Court Cardiff.
In the early 1850s, colliery proprieter James Harvey Insole’s growing fortunes enabled him to consider building a small country house. He chose a plot of pasture land between the Fairwater and Ely, probably due to its proximity to Cardiff and Llandaff. The house, originally built as a modest double-fronted residence known as Ely Court. Insole Court had many uses: an ARP HQ during World War II and council offices. It fell into disrepair and was closed in November 2006. Fortunately, following a long campaign by the Friends of Insole Court, it was re-opened in November 2008. It is now a popular venue for adult education, nursery and after-school groups, and concerts.
The entrance hall of the main house was showing all the signs of decades of heavy foot traffic and neglect. We sanded the floors back to a fresh clean surface and refinished the floors with four coats of a commercial grade flor lacquer, that provides a beautiful and durable finish. The perfect first impression of the houseThe transformation of the hallway was nothing short of spectacular! The once tired-looking wood floors now restored, enhancing the natural light, brightening up entire hallway. At some point in this floors history, to complete some kind of repair, someone has replaced the original planks with wood that was a different type of wood that obviously did not match the original floor. Our task was to colour match the wood. Using a combination of pigment colours mixed with French polish we were able to seamlessly blend the wood to crate an even coloured floor
